Nurses Week Life with eviCore

Four Million Reasons to Celebrate Our 4 Million Nurses

There are 4 million registered nurses in America, and EviCore is lucky to have 1,000 of them on our team. Our nurses, almost a quarter of our workforce, are instrumental in improving care for patients, providers, and payers.

At EviCore, our nurses inspire us to do what is right to empower healthcare. They innovate by optimizing care and cultivating safety, and they influence all of us by reminding us that at the end of the day, we are primarily here to serve the patient. Though our nurses don’t interact directly with patients, they actually make more of an impact by positively affecting so many lives every day.

With National Nurses Week this month, we’d like to introduce you to two of our heroes. Meet Charlotte Hines, our Home Health Care Coordinator from the Post-Acute Care department, and Angela Maurer, our Clinical Reviewer from Clinical Operations.

What keeps you inspired and excited about nursing?

Charlotte Hines: I love being a nurse and it is an extension of myself and how I was raised. It comes natural to me. I learn something new every day. I love helping others and treating others the way I wanted to be treated. This job is truly the best experience I’ve had, and I enjoy coming to work each day. I look forward to many years of service for EviCore.

What is one of your greatest examples of a patient success story?

Charlotte Hines: One of my patients was a paraplegic following a car accident as a young adult. She required skilled nursing care three times a week, as well as someone being in the home 24/7. She was close to my own age and I was able to identify with her, and over the course of our time together I gained respect and inspiration from her. We shared good days and bad, tears and laughter, and she always put life in perspective for me. I always left her knowing I made sure she was well taken care of and grateful for all of the things she taught me about life.

What guides you as a nurse when caring for your patients?

Angela Maurer: My faith above all. Also, I think of how I would want to be treated, how I hope my family or friends would be cared for, and remember we never know what another person may have going on that can impact all other aspects of their lives. Kindness matters, and paying it forward has always worked for me.

How do you bring EviCore’s values to life?

Angela Maurer: I strive to remain flexible–which is essential in a constantly changing field such as nursing and clinical review. By staying up-to-date with improvements and education, our team is more efficient, helping our company provide the highest quality patient care. I feel it is also important to encourage family and friends to perform screenings and annual check-ups to address the whole person health approach and preventative means, and not just worry about a problem when it arises.
