Medical Oncology Clinical Trials: Benefits, Challenges, and Opportunities

Every day, patients with cancer make decisions about their care in conjunction with their doctors, family, and friends. Some of those patients are given the opportunity to receive a promising new treatment that is expected to deliver outcomes at least as effective as the current standard of care—and possibly better. Ultimately, however, most do not receive the new therapy. Despite evidence that shows patients are more likely to achieve better outcomes when they participate in a clinical trial, only 1 in 20 adult patients elects to participate. As a result, approximately 20% of clinical trials fail because of poor patient enrollment.

The stakes are high for both current and future cancer patients because clinical trials are the primary driver to unearthing new medical evidence that can improve the lives of countless patients throughout the world. In this webinar, we will provide an overview of oncology clinical trials: separate fact from fiction, identify the benefits that clinical trials bring, examine the barriers to enrollment, and discuss opportunities for improvement.

Watch our on-demand webinar as EviCore oncology experts Dr. Stephen Hamilton, Dr. Crystal Denlinger, and Richard Emery discuss: (1) how clinical trials are designed, implemented, and administered, (2) the benefits that clinical trials bring to patients and society at large, (3) the challenges associated with clinical trial enrollment, and (4) current opportunities to improve oncology clinical trial enrollment.
